A 26-year-old man from Christchurch has been arrested by the Canterbury Rural Police in connection with multiple incidents of vandalism at electric vehicle charging stations. The suspect is accused of stealing charging cables from several locations across the city.

The police confirmed that the individual was detained following an investigation into the unauthorized removal of charging equipment. The incidents reportedly occurred over the past few weeks, with several charging stations left damaged or partially dismantled. No injuries or property damage beyond the stolen cables has been reported.

This is not the first time such incidents have occurred in Christchurch. Local authorities have previously noted a rise in vandalism targeting EV infrastructure, raising concerns about the security of public charging facilities. The police are currently reviewing the case and may seek further charges as the investigation continues.
