A 26-year-old man from Canterbury has been charged with stealing $57,000 worth of electric vehicle charging cables. Gabriel Verry appeared in Christchurch District Court on Tuesday, facing five counts of theft exceeding $2000.

The charges stem from an investigation into the unauthorized removal of multiple charging cables from a commercial property. Authorities confirmed the stolen equipment was valued at over $57,000. Verry is alleged to have taken the cables without permission, though no specific date or location of the alleged theft was disclosed.

This is not the first time Verry has faced legal issues. Previous records show he was previously involved in a case related to property damage. The current charges highlight ongoing concerns about theft of high-value equipment, particularly in the growing electric vehicle sector. Law enforcement is now seeking to determine the full extent of the alleged crime and whether other individuals were involved.
