The Union of Public Employees (PSA) has filed legal action against the solicitor-general, alleging that the latter has accelerated a leadership restructure at Crown Law. The PSA represents over 50% of the agency’s staff. The legal action comes as the union claims the restructure was rushed without proper consultation.
The PSA has stated that the solicitor-general’s decision to reorganize leadership was made without adequate notice or input from the union. The agency, Crown Law, is responsible for legal matters related to the New Zealand government. The union argues that the restructure may have been driven by political pressures rather than operational needs.
This is not the first time the PSA has raised concerns about governance at Crown Law. Previous disputes have centered on staffing levels and resource allocation. The current legal challenge marks a significant escalation in the union’s efforts to influence the agency’s management. The outcome of the legal action could set a precedent for future labor relations within government departments.
